To Sing And Pray...

As it turns out, my blog is a great learning tool for me... in this case it's a good place to store quotes which I'd like to remember. This one's definitely worth sharing and will be helpful for any theologian or student of theology... it's certainly helpful to me...
"Authentic religious language is finally not the language of the classroom or the lecture hall, but the language of liturgy and prayer. Singing one of Luther's hymns is usually a deeper act of gratitude than reading The Bondage of the Will. Praying one of Calvin's prayers is usually a deeper act of gratitude than reading his Letter to Cardinal Sadolet. And Protestants, when all is said and done, express their gratitude more adequately in their hymns and prayers than in their theologizing. But if theology can help us to be grateful by teaching us to sing and pray, it will not have been in vain." -Robert McAfee Brown (from "Theology as an Act of Gratitude" p. 95)
