Rick Warren's Faith Forum: Barak Obama and John McCain

A few days ago Rick Warren hosted interviews with both presidential candidates; Barak Obama and John McCain. I think that both candidates answered their questions very honestly and showed very clearly what they think about the issues about which Warren questioned them. I was slightly disappointed with the questions that Warren asked. At least early on Warren fueled the presupposition that all the church cares about is abortion and gay marriage. He saved himself a bit by asking about America's responsebility abroad as the richest country in the world. Warren seemed to approach the questions at a fairly supperficial level (he once asked Obama if he had ever voted to reduce abortions right afer Obama had just tried to explain that the issue of abortion is much too comlex to be resolved by the passing of a law it's not as simple as legislation. President Bush has been against abortion for eight years and the numbers have not gone down). To be fair, though, Warren did leave enough room in his questions for the candidates to recognize the true complexity of the issues.

Both Obama and McCain did a great job.
